@ilovechopin11 He is also talking about faith in God…when we were young noone in America would have been surprised by that. At graduations in small towns girls wore a white dress for both a graduation and a prayer service. America believed in the God of the Bible then…no one made you believe…no one had to. People did not blame God if they fell short and sinned…they took the responsibility themselves. Carousel is a redemptive story…it is about second chances.
Such a beautiful way to end a beautiful movie.
love this so much — makes me cry every time. What a super sad true love story this is.
@hamasger Thank you
@ilovechopin11 The ‘doctor’ says that the graduates have to believe in themselves, and it doesn’t matter what kind of people their parents were, and so if she believes in that she wouldn’t have to be sorry anymore.
I don’t get what Billy does to help Julie and Louise in the end. All he says is “Believe”.
this gets m every time… I was in a production of Carousel a few years ago with a friend of mine that died shortly after we were done… I think of her every time I hear this song (: I miss you Suzie!!
I met Shirley Jones once with her son. Both adorable people
timeless
@hamasger
I know both Betty and Rosemary, and I am 21. I also love Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. People are allowed to be well rounded.
@brianbry93 same here! all the female movie stars and singers of today just lack the beauty and emotion of what those women had!
@hamasger
Yep 62 actually but that clip brings out all the emotion of true love
@hamasger I, and quite a few of my more educated friends do.
Beautiful song…………………..stolen and ruined by the football terraces
walk on with hope in your heart
and you’ll never walk alone
one of the best songs ever
@hamasger i’m 16, i adore betty hutton..doris day, shirley jones…
0:50 one of my favorite parts. So sweet.
its got to be one of the best endings EVER
@DorisDayFanatic i completely agree.
@kirakirashiya It’s awesome to know that there’s someone else out there who loves the same kind of stuff, isn’t it? I don’t think we have weird taste in music….we just have BETTER taste in music than everybody else. =)
@DorisDayFanatic I do, too. I live with my grandmother and her mother had some classical movies in VHS and I started falling in love with them when I was still 7 or 8. My brother teases me because of my weird taste in music. But like you said, it’s good to be different.
@hamasger I do. I LOVE Rosemary Clooney since I was 15.
Saw her in White Christmas.
@DorisDayFanatic
You are wise beyond your years…and kind-hearted as well. My apologies to hamasger if I misunderstood his/her comment.
@ADarkAria, I don’t think that hamasger meant it in a bad way, but thanks for defending me if you thought he or she did. =)
Another great reason to love New York! Thanks for spending your own money to restore this beautiful carousel. Its a treasure
I used to ride the carousel when I was a little girl in the 1940s. Thanks to the family who spent millions to bring this treasure back to life. Thank you oh thank you! It’s so beautiful and brings back so many memories. Janice
I have to say, I was really upset when the beautiful willow tree was destroyed to make way for this carousel. But, being a parent, the smiles on my daughters’ faces when they ride the horseys certainly will make up for that. The carousel is another reason to enjoy the waterfront and another reason to enjoy our fine neighborhood.
R.I.P. Mr. Willow Tree. Your death shall not be in vain.
